Reconnaissance Studies

(2017, augmented reality drawings)

Reconnaissance Studies is a growing series of hybrid new media drawings that illuminates and problematizes conflicting details of the theaters of war. The first three works of this series, Reproduction Unit, Eighth Army, and No Secrets East of Greenwich, draw on imagery from strategic reconnaissance maps from the Allied invasion of Normandy in World War II, combining traditional ink-based drawing with augmented reality to allow people to point their phones and tablets at the drawings to examine hidden layers and animations of the artwork in a digital space. Winner of โ€œBest in New Mediaโ€ at the 2017 University Film and Video Association conference, Los Angeles, CA.
